After a long New Jersey winter, spring is the ideal time to give your plumbing some attention. A short inspection now can prevent costly surprises later in the year. Here's your seasonal checklist.

Indoors

• Check under sinks for slow leaks
• Test toilets for hidden flapper leaks
• Inspect the water heater for corrosion or moisture
• Clean faucet aerators and showerheads
• Check exposed pipes for any winter damage

Outdoors

• Reconnect and test outdoor faucets and hoses
• Inspect the sump pump before spring rains
• Check that drainage flows away from the foundation
• Look for signs of sewer line issues in the yard
